While moviegoers are studying the list of nominees for the Golden Globes 2022 and arguing over who will get the figurines of the 80th anniversary ceremony, it’s time to remember what interesting things happened at the Globes in different years.
January 7, 2008
The audience waited in vain for the Golden Globe 2008, not yet suspecting that it would not take place that year. The ceremony’s organizers, the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, announced on January 7 that the event was canceled due to a writers’ strike. Having failed to reach an agreement with the authors, the HFPA simply read out the list of winners during a press conference on January 13th. And no red carpets and “thanks to my mom.”
January 7, 2018
At the 75th Golden Globes, many celebrities appeared in total black outfits, but not because their little black dresses were sitting in closets and it was time to take them out. The fact is that just then the Times Up movement was gaining momentum, and the stars agreed that it was time to tie up with harassment in the workplace. The red carpet in 2018 looked pretty mournful.
It is curious that on the eve of the HFPA asked not to arrange provocations at the Golden Globe and to protest against harassment somehow more modestly. But do the stars stop halfway?

On this day, the hottest scandal broke out. The HFPA has been accused of a “lack of diversity” among its members and called for a rethink to include more races and genders. Many stars supported the claims against the HFPA and also stood up for the equality of everyone and everything.
For example, Tom Cruise was so upset by the predominance of white journalists in the HFPA that he publicly returned back three Golden Globes received in different years. Scarlett Johansson and Mark Ruffalo acted less radically and simply made statements, but kept the existing statuettes to themselves.

At the Golden Globe 2019, there was also a local scandal. The hosts (by the way, women), in their characteristic ironic manner, started talking about the film “Gravity”. Among other things, there was a joke that George Clooney would rather fly into outer space and perish there forever than spend time with a woman his own age.
Of course, the witticism was recognized as misogynistic and sexist, and everyone had to apologize: the presenters, the organizers, and even the poor fellow Clooney, who also flew in, however, it is not clear why.
