
All rolls in nori can be divided into two large groups – with rice inside or outside. The second category includes California rolls, and this is the most popular example of uramaki in Europe. In this collection of recipes, we will tell you how to cook them at home, and what kind of filling you can take!
1. Classic California rolls

Let’s start with the basic and most common recipe!
You will need: 200 g sushi rice, 20 ml rice vinegar, nori sheets, 30 g cream cheese, 1 cucumber, 50 g avocado, 50 g tobiko caviar, 150 g crab sticks.
Cooking: Boil rice in advance and mix it with rice vinegar. Cut the avocado, cucumber and crab sticks into thin strips. Lay a sheet of nori on a sushi mat, spread the rice over the entire surface, and turn over. Lay out all the stuffing, and wrap the roll. Sprinkle it with tobiko caviar and press a little more.
2. California rolls with crab

In fact, it doesn’t even matter if it’s real crab meat – it’s still delicious.
You will need: 150 g ready-made sushi rice, 1 nori sheet, 1/3 avocado, 30 g tobiko caviar, 70 g crab meat.
Cooking: Lay a sheet of nori on the mat, spread the rice over it and turn it over. Cut the crab meat and avocado into strips, lay out the filling and roll up. Gently sprinkle it with tobiko caviar on all sides and cut with a wet knife.
3. California rolls with shrimp

Shrimps fit perfectly with this type of filling.
You will need: 500 g round rice, 1 avocado, 100 g tobiko caviar, 8 tbsp. rice vinegar, 120 g peeled shrimp, 2 tbsp. sugar, 0.5 tsp salt, nori sheets.
Cooking: Boil rice according to instructions and season with rice vinegar, sugar and salt. Let cool. Boil or fry the shrimp for a couple of minutes until tender. Lay a sheet of nori on the mat, top with rice and tobiko caviar.
Gently turn the nori blank upside down, lay out the avocados and shrimp cut into strips. Roll up a tight roll and cut it with a knife dipped in water.
4. California rolls in sesame

Most often, the outer layer of California rolls is tobiko caviar. But you can take sesame too!
You will need: 100 g sushi rice, 60 g crab sticks, 1 avocado, 1 cucumber, nori sheets, 100 g sesame seeds, 0.25 tsp. sugar, 1 pinch of salt, 0.5 tsp. rice vinegar.
Cooking: Boil the rice and season it with vinegar, salt and sugar. Cut cucumber, avocado and crab sticks into strips. Put nori, rice on the mat, and sesame seeds on top, flatten slightly and turn sesame down. Put all the stuffing on the nori and roll it tight.
5. California rolls with salmon

A simple classic – for all lovers of salmon rolls.
You will need: 200 g round rice, 0.5 tsp. sugar, 20 ml rice vinegar, nori sheets, 150 g salmon, 1 cucumber, 50 g avocado, 50 g tobiko or sesame caviar.
Cooking: Boil the rice, pour it with vinegar, add sugar, mix and leave to cool. Lay the nori on a roll mat and press the rice on top. Sprinkle with sesame seeds or caviar, gently press and turn over. Cut all the stuffing into strips, lay out on nori, and roll up a tight roll.
6. California rolls with cucumber

Cucumber in rolls makes them less dry and gives a variety of flavors.
You will need: 500 g round sushi rice, 1 avocado, 1 cucumber, 100 g tobiko caviar, 8 tbsp. rice vinegar, 0.5 tsp salt, 2 tbsp. sugar, 120 g crab sticks, nori sheets.
Cooking: Boil rice until tender. Mix vinegar, salt and sugar, season rice, and let cool. Put seaweed on a roll mat and rice on top. Press and turn the workpiece. Put the sliced cucumber, avocado and crab sticks on the nori. Make a tight roll, sprinkle evenly with tobiko caviar and cut with a sharp knife.
7. Rolls California with eel

California – simple rolls, but even they can please gourmets.
You will need: 150 g ready-made sushi rice, 1 nori sheet, 1/3 avocado, 50 g cucumber, 30 g sesame seeds, 70 g smoked eel, unagi sauce.
Cooking: Put nori on the roll mat, rice on top, and then sesame seeds. Gently press everything and turn the workpiece over. Cut the avocado, cucumber and eel into strips, put on top and roll up tight. Slice it with a wet knife and drizzle with unagi sauce.
8. California rolls with smoked salmon

Traditionally, fresh fish goes into rolls, but not everyone likes this option.
You will need: 500 g sushi rice, 8 tbsp. rice vinegar, 0.5 tsp salt, 2 tbsp. sugar, 1 avocado, 100 g tobiko caviar, 120 g smoked salmon, nori sheets.
Cooking: Boil rice, season with vinegar, sugar and salt, and let cool. Lay a sheet of nori on the mat, tamp rice on top and sprinkle with tobiko caviar. Gently press and turn the workpiece. Top with sliced avocado and fish, and roll tight.
9. Rolls California with tuna

Fresh tuna is more refined, canned tuna is more affordable. Choose!
You will need: 200 g sushi rice, nori sheets, 20 ml rice vinegar, 1 cucumber, 50 g avocado, 50 g sesame or tobiko caviar, 100 g tuna.
Cooking: Boil the rice and season it with rice vinegar. Put the nori on the mat, tamp the cooled rice on top, and sesame or caviar on it. Slice the cucumber, avocado and tuna into strips, place on top of the nori, and roll up with a mat.
10. Baked California rolls

Here is such an unusual recipe when you want variety and warm food at the same time.
You will need: 200 g sushi rice, 0.5 tsp sugar, 1 pinch of salt, 2 tsp. rice vinegar, 100 g crab sticks, 1 avocado, 1 cucumber, 100 g tobiko caviar, 60 g mayonnaise, soy sauce, chili sauce, nori sheets.
Cooking: Boil rice until tender and season with vinegar, salt and sugar. Put the nori on the mat, tamp the rice on top and sprinkle with tobiko caviar. Turn the workpiece over and lay out the crab sticks cut into strips, avocado and cucumber.
Roll up the roll and cut it with a knife moistened with water. Mix mayonnaise, soy sauce and chili to taste, and spread some of the sauce on the rolls. Send them to the oven for 3-4 minutes at 200 degrees.
11. California rolls with cream cheese

Cream cheese is a common but not essential ingredient in California.
You will need: 200 g sushi rice, 0.5 tsp sugar, 20 ml rice vinegar, nori sheets, 30 g cream cheese, 1/2 cucumber, 150 g crab sticks, 50 g avocado, 50 g tobiko caviar.
Cooking: Boil the rice, season it with vinegar and sugar, and let it cool. Put nori on the mat, rice on top, and caviar on it. Press down a little and turn the nori blank upside down. Top with cream cheese and sliced crab sticks, cucumber and avocado. Roll up the roll.
12. California rolls with vegetables

Vegetarian variation of popular rolls.
You will need: 150 g ready-made sushi rice, 1 sheet nori, 1/3 avocado, 30 g sesame, 70 g cucumber, 50 g pickled daikon.
Cooking: Lay the nori roll on the mat and press the cooked sushi rice on top. Sprinkle with sesame seeds, press and turn the workpiece. Cut the avocado, cucumber and daikon into strips, put on top and roll up.
