Braised cabbage with potatoes is the best side dish for all occasions. And it is also a full-fledged independent dish, especially during fasting. It is very satisfying, simple and at the same time very tasty. We share 10 delicious cooking recipes!
1. Cabbage stewed with potatoes – a classic recipe
A simple, no-frills option!
You will need: 500 g cabbage, 3 potatoes, 1 carrot, 1 onion, 2 tbsp. tomato paste, spices.
Cooking: Finely chop the cabbage, add grated carrots to it and knead with your hands. Cut the onion into half rings, and the potatoes into random pieces of medium size.
Fry the onion until transparent, add cabbage and carrots, pour in 50 ml of water and mix with tomato paste. Simmer covered for 5 minutes, then add the potatoes and another 100 ml of water. Continue simmering until potatoes are cooked.
2. Braised cabbage with potatoes and meat
Pork is excellent because it is softer and juicier.
You will need: 300 g cabbage, 400 g potatoes, 300 g pork, 1 onion, 1 carrot, 1 tomato, 2 tbsp. tomato paste, garlic, spices.
Cooking: Finely chop the onion and carrots and lightly fry. Add pieces of meat there and stew until half cooked. Top with chopped cabbage and thin slices of potatoes, pour a glass of water, season and leave covered for 20 minutes.
Add tomato paste and minced garlic, stir and simmer for another 10 minutes. Then remove from heat, add finely chopped tomatoes and leave the cabbage under the lid for the same amount.
3. Braised cabbage with potatoes and chicken
Even those who strictly adhere to proper nutrition will like it!
You will need: 800 g cabbage, 500 g potatoes, 2 chicken legs, 1 carrot, 1 onion, spices, herbs, 1 tbsp. tomato paste.
Cooking: Cut the chicken into portions and fry until golden. Transfer it to a cauldron, add spices, chopped onions and grated carrots there, and fry for another 5 minutes.
Cut the potatoes into cubes, lay out to the chicken, and leave for another 5 minutes. Then add the cabbage, dilute the tomato paste with water, and pour everything together. Carcasses on low heat under the lid for half an hour, and sprinkle with herbs.
4. Braised cabbage with potatoes and fish
A little unexpected recipe, but it definitely deserves attention!
You will need: 400 g cabbage, 2 potatoes, 300 g fish, 2 tomatoes, 2 onions, spices.
Cooking: Fry chopped onion, add chopped cabbage, and after 5 minutes – thinly sliced potatoes. Add a couple of tablespoons of water and cook until soft over low heat, stirring occasionally.
Add chopped tomatoes, spices and tomato paste, and continue to simmer until the liquid has evaporated. Put the pieces of fish on top, add a little water and leave on the stove for another 7-10 minutes under the lid.
5. Cabbage stewed with potatoes and peppers
And to make it even more beautiful, take several halves of pepper of different colors.
You will need: 300 g cabbage, 300 g potatoes, 300 g peppers, spices.
Cooking: Shred the cabbage and lightly fry it so that it decreases in volume. Thinly slice the potatoes, send to the cabbage and continue to simmer. Lastly, add the diced peppers and spices, and leave the dish on low heat under the lid until cooked.
6. Braised cabbage with potatoes and zucchini
If you want the dish to be lighter, take fewer potatoes and more zucchini.
You will need: 300 g cabbage, 3 potatoes, 1 zucchini, 1 onion, 1 carrot, 2 tomatoes, garlic, spices, herbs.
Cooking: Cut and fry onions with carrots, add potato cubes and 50 ml of water to them, and simmer for 10 minutes. Put the zucchini slices and shredded cabbage, and mix the vegetables well.
Top up with a little more water as needed. Stew under the lid for another 5 minutes and add chopped tomatoes with spices in a blender. Leave the cabbage on the stove until all vegetables are ready, and at the end add greens and crushed garlic.
7. Braised cabbage with potatoes in sour cream
In most recipes, cabbage with potatoes is cooked in tomato. But we have another option!
You will need: 400 g cabbage, 600 g potatoes, 150 g carrots, 150 g onions, 200 g sour cream, spices, herbs.
Cooking: Cut carrots and onions into small cubes and fry with spices. Add coarsely chopped potatoes, a glass of sour cream, 2 glasses of water, and mix. When the sauce boils, put the cabbage inva mix, sprinkle with spices and leave to stew under the lid until tender.
8. Cabbage stewed with potatoes and beans
In order not to waste time cooking beans, take canned beans.
You will need: 600 g cabbage, 500 g potatoes, 1 can of beans, 1 carrot, 2 onions, 3 tbsp. tomato paste, spices.
Cooking: Finely chop the onion and grate the carrots on a coarse grater, and then fry together. Cut the potatoes into medium cubes and fry separately until golden.
Pour in tomato paste with water and spices to carrots and onions, and during this time stew cabbage in a cauldron. After 5 minutes, combine all the ingredients in the same cauldron, add the beans and cook under the lid until the potatoes and cabbage are soft.
9. Braised cabbage with potatoes and mushrooms
Classic, but nowhere without it!
You will need: 300 g cabbage, 3 potatoes, 1 onion, 100 g mushrooms, 1 carrot, spices.
Cooking: Cut the potatoes into cubes and boil until half cooked, and in the meantime make a roast of onions, carrots and mushrooms. Add spices, cabbage and potatoes to the frying, add a little water and simmer for about 15 minutes over low heat, stirring.
10. Braised cabbage with potatoes and chicken hearts
A hearty and inexpensive dish that is very easy to prepare!
You will need: 300 g cabbage, 500 g potatoes, 400 g hearts, 1 onion, spices.
Cooking: Coarsely chop the onion and fry it with hearts until half cooked. Pour in a little water and stew under the lid for about 20 minutes, but for now, chop the cabbage and cut the potatoes.
Add cabbage to the pan, season, mix everything well and leave to stew further. After a couple of minutes, add potatoes, a glass of hot water and simmer for another 15-20 minutes.
