Fragrant basil is not only an excellent spice and addition to main dishes, but also a very interesting base for a wide variety of drinks. It is used in the preparation of lemonades, cocktails, and also for cooking compotes for the winter or summer. And it is on compotes that we will dwell in more detail today!
1. Compote of basil and mint with cane sugar
Let’s start with the best summer compote, from which all household members will be delighted.
You will need: 50 g basil, 2 l water, 20 g mint, 1/2 lemon, 8 tbsp. brown sugar.
Cooking: Boil water, add sugar to it and stir. Add chopped lemon, basil and mint. Bring the compote to a boil again, remove from heat and let it brew for 15 minutes under the lid.
2. Compote of basil and lemon
Delicious and refreshing with minimal ingredients.
You will need: 1 bunch of basil, 1 liter of water, 100 g of sugar, 1/4 lemon.
Cooking: Rinse the basil, add sugar and chopped lemon to it, and pour water over it. Bring to a boil, boil for 10 minutes over low heat and remove the compote from the stove.
3. Basil compote with citric acid for the winter
We tell you how to roll up the same favorite compote for storage.
You will need: 150 g basil, 300 g sugar, 5 g citric acid, 3 liters of water.
Cooking: Put the basil leaves in a sterilized jar and sprinkle with sugar and citric acid. Fill the workpiece with boiling water and roll it up for the winter.
4. Basil compote with honey
Depending on your preference, you can use more or less honey.
You will need: 2 bunches of basil, 2 lemons, 3 liters of water, 150 g of honey.
Cooking: Boil water, add chopped basil and leave everything to infuse for half an hour. Then add lemon juice and honey, heat the compote again so that the honey dissolves, and remove it from the heat.
5. Green and purple basil compote
You can chill it and drink it, or you can put it in jars for the winter.
You will need: 90 g purple basil, 50 g green basil, 1 lemon, 280 g sugar, 3 liters of water.
Cooking: Sort the basil leaves, finely chop the lemon, and bring the water to a boil. Add basil to boiling water. After 5 minutes, add lemon and sugar, boil for another 5 minutes and remove from heat. Let the compote brew under the lid for 20 minutes and then strain.
6. Basil compote with lime for the winter
Lime gives compote more original citrus notes than lemon.
You will need: 1 bunch of basil, 1 lime, 2 liters of water, 300 g of sugar.
Cooking: Place basil leaves and sliced lime in a sterilized jar. Pour everything with sugar, pour boiling water and roll up the compote for the winter.
7. Basil compote with apples
A simple garden Antonovka is ideal.
You will need: 3 apples, 1 bunch of basil, 4 sprigs of mint, 2 tbsp. lemon juice, 2 liters of water, 200 g of sugar.
Cooking: Put sliced apples, basil and mint in a sterilized jar. Pour boiling water over and leave covered for 5 minutes. Drain the water, add sugar and lemon juice, boil again and pour back. Roll up the compote.
8. Basil compote with gooseberries for the winter
Another very harmonious combination, and in addition – the rich color of the compote.
You will need: 1 bunch of basil, 2 cups of gooseberries, 2-3 liters of water, 250 g of sugar, 2 pinches of citric acid.
Cooking: Put the basil and gooseberries in the prepared jar, fill them with boiling water and leave for 10 minutes under the lid. Drain the water, boil it again with sugar, and add citric acid. Pour this syrup back into the jars and roll up.
9. Basil compote with orange for the winter
Ready compote impresses with its bright and unusual aroma.
You will need: 1 orange, 1 bunch of basil, 100 g sugar, 2 liters of water.
Cooking: Put the basil and sliced orange in a sterilized jar. You can also add a sprig of thyme or mint. Boil water with sugar, pour this syrup into a jar and roll up compote for the winter.
10. Basil compote with cherries
Very simple and at the same time original taste!
You will need: 2 cups cherries, 2 bunches of basil, 3 liters of water, 200 g of sugar.
Cooking: Boil water, add sugar and stir. Add cherries and basil, boil the compote for another 10 minutes, remove from heat and let it brew for 20-30 minutes under the lid.
